How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
Travelling. Me and a buddy went to Australia and then Costa Rica... and it hasn’t stopped since!
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Wanted to be a pro golfer.
Who was your biggest inspiration?
Tiger Woods.
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
A variety of surfboards for every surf condition gives me optimal time in the water having the most fun. From shortboards to SUPs, I have worked with several surf brands on product development and learning the science behind your craft keeps me going to new heights.
If you could meet an idol or figure of any era, who would it be? What would you ask them?
Laird Hamilton THE all time waterman! I would like to hear some tales about Jaws that redefined his connection with the ocean.
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
Favourite highlight would be going to Mavericks with the wife, and watching her run her own ski and shoot pics from the channel, while I got to paddle in & get a wave. Not an easy task... but she killed it! Top achievement was doing a big wave contest and competing with some of the TOP big waves riders from all over the world.
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
Hopefully still chasing winter and swells.
In terms of healthy habit, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high caffeine, high sugar drinks)
Use to drink them but seen few friends crash and drop from drinking too many so I haven’t touched them in a long time. Seemed unhealthy.
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
Living a simple life here on the Westcoast introduces you to some really creative and like minded individuals. Once I heard the story behind Wize and sampled the product I was onboard immediately. I am an avid coffee lover and support promoting a product that has helped coffee farmers to continue providing a sustainable living. Consuming the coffee leaf is a clean, uplifting and satisfying taste. Everyone loves them when I pass them around after a surf.
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
Hopefully travelling again, getting to some new spots and getting some good footage!
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
Mango but the hint of lemon is dam good too! Usually before I surf or go in the water
