How did you discover your talent? What got you started?
Jacob: Initially started dancing in high school to attract girls. Dance helped me realize my love for music and movement, which eventually evolved into DJing, and Personal Training. I just felt like I could be helping more people, and my passions eventually transcended past just dancing and choreographing.
Lanie: Training and movement has been a part of my life for as long as I could remember. After spending years dancing competitively and teaching, the transition to fitness just made so much sense. I found that I was able to transfer over so many skills that I’ve required from all the years of dancing. The onset of the pandemic was what kick started this new path for me. I took it as a sign that it was time to change things up and try something new.
As a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
Who was your biggest inspiration?
Jacob: Bruce Lee
Lanie: My mom
What makes you keep innovating and pushing your skills to new heights? What’s the intrinsic driver or motivation?
Jacob: Gratitude and the people around me who are also succeeding in doing what they love.
Lanie: Personal accountability is what keeps me going. Committing myself to helping and training others really pushes me to help and train myself first.
So far, what has been your favourite highlight of your career? An achievement? A specific moment?
Jacob: So far my favorite moment was witnessing the transformation of my first client. It really validated the work that I am doing and the impact that I’m making on my clients. I also have been enjoying the process of creating business goals and watching us actually achieve them.
Lanie: My highlight of my career so far has been creating my own personal training business with Jacob. We have had so much experience working together prior to taking on fitness as a career that it was a no brainer to take on this new venture together. It has been so rewarding and a lot of fun!
In regards to your career, where do you want to be in 5 or 10 years?
Jacob: In 5 to 10 years, I want to open up my own gym. Not only that I want to be someone who’s well respected in the industry and community for the work that I do.
Lanie: My long term goal is to train professional dancers, athletes, stunt actors, and to have our own gym! I want to have strong relationships with other local businesses to help keep the community growing.
In terms of healthy habits, what are your thoughts on the current beverage options out there? (I.e. Energy Drinks, high sugar drinks etc)
Jacob: Moderation. Even water can be detrimental to your health when consumed in inappropriate amounts.
Lanie: I am definitely seeing more natural and healthier options for energy drinks. I think some people still don’t believe that they can get the boost that they need from natural ingredients. Overall, I think our options have improved!
How does Wize fit into your current lifestyle? And why do you choose Wize?
Jacob: I am always looking for a way to support local companies like Wize. As a trainer/athlete, I want to find a more healthier option to having caffeine and Wize has been such a great option!
Lanie: I love having a Wize drink right after lunch! It really gives me the extra boost of energy that I need around that time. I choose Wize because the flavour selection is great, it’s local, it’s low in sugar and the energy I get out of it is so refreshing.
What are the next projects coming down the pipeline?
Jacob: We are looking to do more collaborative partnerships with local businesses. We’ll also be participating in the next BMO run in May!
Lanie: We always get a little more busy once the weather gets warmer. We love to host outdoor events and workouts so we’re really looking forward to that!
What’s your favourite flavour of Wize tea? When do you typically drink it?
Jacob: Mango is my favourite. I usually drink it before a workout or during my coffee break at work.
