WizeWorld Volume 93

May 27, 2022

Welcome to the 93rd volume of WizeWorld: a collection of stories and sounds to round out your week, pique your curiosity, and widen your wizdom.

This week’s theme is longevity.

A healthy lifestyle is about more than just eating right and exercising. It includes family, friends, and all loved ones coming together. Whether it’s to share a delicious iced tea at the beach or to build a community garden. Togetherness is a key factor in our health.

We’ll be looking at:

  • How friends help us live longer
  • An interview with Lit Fitness founders Jacob and Lanie
  • Sustainable bamboo architecture around the world
  • Essential Sango Volume One from seangran
  • The world’s largest urban garden

Learn

An image of four friends, in the distance, seated on a beach. The tide has receded into the distance and the sky is a beautiful blue dotted with clouds.

What’s the secret to a long, healthy life? While healthy eating and regular exercise are important, a new study suggests that we often overlook another simple but very important factor: relationships. Whether it’s romantic relationships or friendships, people who surround themselves with others tend, on average, to live longer, get better sleep, and experience better immune function. So we encourage you to get out there this summer—pack up the cooler with Wize iced tea and make time for friends, family, and all loved ones so you can all enjoy the many healthy, happy summers to come.

Connect

An image of Lanie pulling her knee into her chest while wearing sports leggings and sitting on grass.

Speaking of connection, we’re throwing back to this interview with Jacob Soriano and Lanie Valencia of Lit Fitness in Surrey, BC. Lit’s mission statement is Longevity in Training. They want to help you find healthy and sustainable ways to add fitness into your everyday routine, and they take great pride in seeing their clients succeed in their goals. Their long-term goals include opening a gym, but for now they have an innovative app that allows clients to book sessions and keep in touch with trainers. You’ll find both Jacob and Lanie sipping Mango Wize iced tea to keep their energy levels up because while Jacob is all about moderation, Lanie loves healthy, natural ingredients—so Wize is the perfect drink to tick every box.

See

Colossal has rounded up some amazing examples of sustainable bamboo architecture from all over the world. This renewable, plant-based building material is reported to be six times stronger than steel but uses approximately 50 percent less energy to produce. The result? Beautiful structures that don’t cost the earth. Head to Colossal to view all 14 examples, or check out a previous volume of WizeWorld to see the Thai Welcome Center in all its glory.

Listen

Stay Cool Radio brings us Essential Sango Volume One from seangran. As the weather heats up, don’t forget to keep cool with this sick playlist. Tune in and get focused with a mix that includes tracks from Nuno Dias, Ime Umoh, Bely, and many more. Best enjoyed with the new Sparkling Mango iced tea.

Get inspired

An image of the community garden that spans four football fields-worth of length. On either side sit houses.

Positive News tells the story of the Manguinhos gardens, situated in the heart of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This expansive urban garden is part of the Hortas Cariocas project. Launched in 2006, the project has spawned 55 gardens located in either schools or what are considered vulnerable neighborhoods, such as the one above. The food grown there is distributed within the community, providing organic food to people who may not otherwise have easy access to fresh and nutritious produce. But the people growing it have an impressive story as well—many are those who would have otherwise struggled to find work, or, as one farmer explains, without the garden “today I might be selling drugs, I might be dead, I might be in prison”. Although the Manguinhos gardens are already thought to be the biggest urban garden in the world, they’re seeking to expand it further to help even more people within the community. Growing strong, and growing together.
